Allen and Ginter was a tobacco-manufacturing firm based in Richmond, Virginia that was first founded in 1875 by Lewis Ginter and John Allen. The two-man team created the first cigarette baseball cards that were marketed for trading and collecting. Some of the cards in the original series includes Jack Glasscock, Buffalo Bill, Charles Comiskey and many others.

Allen and Ginter were even awards a prize for inventing a machine that was able to roll cigarettes automatically. Up until that time, cigarettes were all hand rolled. The machine was not completely reliable and most large manufacturers did not buy it, but once it was more largely distributed in 185, it became a great success and even went on create consolidations within competitors. The Allen and Ginter company was one of the companies that was consolidates into the American Tobacco Company and the original Allen and Ginter company name was no longer used. Lewis Ginter, however, did continue to sit on the board under the new company name.

Allen and Ginter produced several different cigarette brand names including Little Beauties, Perfection, Richmond Gems and many others, but the baseball cards remained their claim to fame in history. The cards were so popular, that another company decided to revive the idea in recent years.

The revived cards from the same trading card brand came out in 2006 from the Topps company. These revived cards have hand painted faces on them of both current and past baseball players. They also have quirky little inserts that features athletes from other sports and even some politicians or other non-athletes.

The current Topps cards have a wide-range of celebrities on them with everything from a 7-time Grand Slam winner to a 4-star chef. You can also find racing royalty, first time singers and many others. There are many different ways in which you can buy the cards. You can find frames, autographed cards at trade shows and online. You can also buy cards with cut signatures. There are even packs of cards that allow you the luck of the draw and a variety of players and celebrities in one pack.

If you decide to collect the Allen and Ginter cards from Tops, you may also want some of the accessories that go well with the cards. That means a binder kid or blaster box that can help you house the cards in a manner that will be nice and safe. If you want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the current cards, you can also buy a complete set of 350 baseball cards in addition to 10 of the exclusive cards. Once you have the full set, you can go through the various cards and decide which ones to keep and which to trade or sell.
